Salsa Bar and Grill
Salsa Bar and Grill is perhaps the most iconic restaurant in Port Douglas and an absolute favourite of many local foodies. An institution for locals and tourists alike, Salsa Bar and Grill has been in operation for the past 20 years. Located on the corner of Wharf and Warner Streets, Salsa Bar and Grill has a unique tropical ambience and a relaxed and informal style.
With views across the parklands to the water and St Mary’s By the Sea Church, Salsa Bar and Grill is a blend of old and new. The restaurant itself is a beautifully restored Queenslander, with polished wooden floors and quaint shutter windows. Salsa Bar and Grill also has a lovely modern outdoor seating area near the bar and offers relaxed breezy dining with great views from the deck.
The menu produced by Bill Conway the owner of Salsa Bar and Grill and Head Chef Goran Zonai, utilises as much regional produce as possible. The focus is on fresh food and creative design. The menu features local Red Claw Yabbies, fresh reef fish and excellent beef. There are some perennial favourites on the menu at Salsa Bar and Grill such as Linguine Pepperincino, and the Thai Spring Rolls with Ginger and Banana mayonnaise. Off the dessert menu perhaps the most famous item is the Daintree Estates Chocolate & Cointreau Souffle, made to order. For dessert lovers, you can’t go past the decadent Tasting Platter for two.
Salsa Bar and Grill also makes a number of cheeses on property. The cheeses are made using Biodynamic milk sourced locally from Mungalli Creek on the Atherton Tablelands. A cheese platter with a selection of these cheeses is also available off the dessert menu.
Salsa Bar and Grill does get VERY busy owing to its devoted legion of admirers. Port Douglas Reef Charters strongly advises making a booking in advance, for either lunch or dinner to avoid disappointment.
